About us

"Norbertinum" was founded on 19th of December 1989, as a partnership between a group of publishers and printers, both associated with the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL). It was the first private catholic publishing house in Poland, that called attention to Christian values in it's activities and products. Its name refers to the name of the originator of the project (who also was the first president of the publishing house – Norbert Wojciechowski), and through the Latin ending refers to the tradition of church publishing companies ("Pallottinum",  "Verbinum", etc.). It is, however a private publishing house, independent of church structures.

In 2012, there was a change in the position of the Chairman of the board. Currently, it is Piotr Sanetra, who is in charge of the work in "Norbertinum".

In December 2019, by the decision of the Minister of Science and Higher Education, a new list of publishers, able to publish peer-reviewed scientific monographs was announced. Our publishing house – "Norbertinum", was also included there and was classified to level 1 (80 + 20 = 100 points). We invite representatives of various scientific disciplines to cooperate in publishing their achievements.

The company's founders were guided by the idea of publishing books that fit into the broadly understood mainstream of Christian culture, as well as promoting publications, which will not only find a vast number of readers, but will answer the basic questions of today's people. Publisher – just like a priest, doctor, teacher – is not only a profession, but also a vocation, a mission that should be performed towards society. it is also a responsibility for the shape of culture, and common wellness of the nation.

Norbertinum's publishing offer is dominated by historical literature, memoirs, contemporary fiction and poetry, as well as scientific and popular science publications in the field of humanities, social studies, theology, philosophy and other branches of knowledge. We are also open to children's and youth literature.

Regional themes are very important to us as well. The wealth of inspirations provided by the Lublin region, allows for long-term exploration of the past and present, of our "small homeland". We have been honored with the "Paweł Konrad's Laurel" („Wawrzyn Pawła Konrada") many times, for our activities in this field.

Our offer includes over 1,000 titles by authors not only from Poland, but also from abroad, from Polish communities in the USA, Canada, Australia, Great Britain, Germany, France, Denmark, Belgium, Norway and Israel. For Poles scattered around the world, we try to act as a bridge in establishing them on the Polish publishing market in relation to Polish readers. Our many years of experience and commitment in this sphere were appreciated in September 2003, at the IV Polish Book Salon, with the "Honorary Award for Historical Journalism Strengthening the Bond of the Polish Diaspora with the Country" („Nagroda Honorowa za Publicystykę Historyczną Umacniającą Więź Kolonii z Krajem").

We attach great importance to the editorial development and design of the books we publish. Our own printing house allows us to minimize production costs, which results in lower prices of publications. We also take great care of the distribution, by organizing book promotions and meetings with authors, participating in fairs and sending copies to selected libraries and editorial offices of specialist magazines. We have our own online bookstore. We also sell our books in a stationary bookstore at the publishing house's headquarters (ul. Długa 5, Lublin), and through a network of wholesalers and bookstores, with which we have been cooperating for years.

We greatly encourage you to check out our offer, which includes a wide range of books, guaranteeing that everyone will find something interesting.
